DIY Tools, Skills, Knowledge and Community Enpowerment!

About LITE

LITE’s mission is to motivate individuals, groups, businesses and even whole communities to live lightly and more efficiently. A Sonoma County based activist group initially incorporated as Car-Lite, we promote simple, sustainable practices with significant consequences - such as driving less, walking and biking, carpooling and taking public transit as well as consuming less, reusing and recycling, buying fresh and local, growing your own food and greening your business.

Our four programs, Car-Lite, Community Bikes, Zero Waste Sonoma County and Living Green, all promote safety, sharing and the development of DIY - Do It Your Self skills. For additional info please visit peruse this web site and visit the Living Green Blog - http://livinggreen.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/.

LITE welcomes collaborators interested in co-creating meaningful, enjoyable and useful initiatives that protect the earth. Community Bikes and Car-Lite project sponsors include the cities of Santa Rosa and Sebastopol, the Sonoma County Office of Education, Sonoma County Air Quality Resource Team and the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition. The cities, Sonoma County Transit, most of the local bike shops and many other individuals provide us with unwanted bikes, parts, tools and a wide variety of accessories. Financial benefactors include the Leroy Tomasi Memorial, REI, Santa Rosa Cycling Club, Sonoma County Spare the Air Team, Whole Foods Market- Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, Bread For The Journey, North Bay Corporation and The Northern California Environmental Grassroots Fund. Zero Waste Sonoma County recently received workshop sponsorships from Urban Ore and Global Materials.
